Digable cause

Earlier this year, Seth Combs wrote of Tide Pools’ new album, Grief is a Wilderness, that “isn’t an album about tragedy, or even death,” he wrote. “It’s about love, and like with most great pop records, love and loss often go hand in hand.” In 2010, Tide Pools’ frontman Dustin Illingworth’s girlfriend, Amy Cole, drowned. Though three years have passed, Illingworth and Cole’s friends have kept her memory alive through benefit shows to raise money for a memorial scholarship in Cole’s name. If you dig great music and want to help raise money for Young Audiences of San Diego, an arts-focused youth-outreach organization, head over to 934 Catalina Blvd. in Point Loma (Cole’s parents’ home) at 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, for the Amy Cole Memorial Scholarship Fundraiser Concert. The line-up’s a good one: Songstress Marie Haddad, Americana band El Monte Slim and, of course, Illingworth. Your $20 donation is tax-deuctible and tickets can be purchased in advance.
